Those Fallen have revolted against the Queen, and it looks like it will be up to Earth’s Guardians to bring them to justice across missions taking place on Earth and Venus. According to leaked information about the expansion, House of Wolves will be raising the “light level” cap for players up to 39, a huge step up from the previous expansion. Destiny was one of the most-hyped games of the generation, but following its release last September, didn’t quite seem to live up to all that hype. Several flaws are present that even the game’s biggest fans agree are areas for improvement.

A fleet of alien ships hang in the sky. A few of them peel off, descend, and deploy troops in a semi-circular arc ahead of you. The music picks up. Choose a direction. It’s a scenario straight out of Bungie’s classic playbook: the open arena, the shooter refactored as a strategic puzzle game where your finesse, situational awareness and cunning allow you to line up and eliminate enemies like Bejewelled gems. Both Destiny ‘s launch campaign and The Dark Below leaned a little too heavily on corridors packed with bullet-sponge foes: House of Wolves learns that lesson, furnishing you with five new missions each with its own memorable set-piece battle.

They are, however, rather brief. Destiny’s dip-in, dip-out structure still struggles to ground you in an ongoing campaign. You’re encouraged to flit from one activity to the next – and there are many good reasons to do so, as I’ll get to. As a result these well-designed missions feel a little like vignettes rather than parts of a cohesive whole. Bungie has, however, revised its attitude to storytelling.

One extremely talented Destiny player that goes by the name Ramblinnn manages to solo a Trials of Osiris match, and does so without dying a single time. As Capcom digs through its cavernous back catalogue for potential remasters, this week sees the release of an HD version of its survival horror prequel Resident Evil 0. YouTuber JackFrags uploads a new video of The Division containing almost 50 minutes worth of new gameplay set in the Dark Zone and showing a number of high level missions.

Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: India makes some vast improvements over its predecessor in terms of style and gameplay while providing challenging 2D puzzles, but still lacks an engaging narrative. Insurgency developer New World reveals a new mod for the military shooter that takes players back to iconic World War 2 battles Normandy and Battle of the Bulge. Hands-On With Destiny’s ‘House of Wolves’ PvE And The Prison Of Elders and it is what many predicted, an arena event vaguely reminiscent of Past matchmaking, I think some players may take issue with the fact that this.

Since its launch in September, Destiny has always encouraged social engagement as the key to full enjoyment of the game. Raids and Nightfall strikes acted as end-game experiences squarely targeted at group play, but demanded you do your own work to form and solidify the teams that would enter those spaces. With House of Wolves, Bungie has doubled down on this strategy, offering two brand new gameplay modes that are a ton of fun, along with some of the most interesting gear and weapons yet seen, but the best of the new content demands a pre-formed group.

House of Wolves opens with several new story missions, taking Guardians into some pitched battles that nonetheless unfold in mostly familiar locales. The story mission battles are smartly paced, with some fevered combat encounters against large numbers of Fallen foes, and these encounters are friendly to both lone wolf Guardians and fully formed Fireteams. After the much decried story of the original game, the story content that unfolds in these House of Wolves missions continues to make strides in the right direction.

Even so, House of Wolves still leaves the Destiny player base hanging, with the bulk of the most interesting fiction locked away in out-of-game grimoire cards and rarely fleshed out through the missions themselves. The new strike is a worthy addition to the growing catalog of 3-man, match-made experiences.

Shadow Thief takes us up onto a Fallen ship for a running fight against a powerful Fallen mercenary. The mid-level tank battle is fun, and I like the opportunity to explore another Fallen spaceship. Especially if you play on PS4, the nine distinct missions now available make the strike playlist experience varied, easy to enjoy with or without friends, and available for a broad swath of levels.

I had fun facing off against my fellow players in all four of the new Crucible maps. Thieves Den is a symmetrical affair with open Control points interconnected by a number of tight, corner-heavy corridors. In discussions with players, you either love or hate the PlayStation exclusive, Timekeeper.

The Prison of Elders is a cooperative player-versus-enemy arena that consists of five rounds of three waves, each round and wave being random. The final round has a random mini-boss. Each round will take place in a room that corresponds to an enemy species : Fallen , Hive , Vex , and Cabal.

Rounds may also have modifiers enabled. In each wave, enemies spawn and must be eliminated. Some waves have an additional objective, such as defusing mines, destroying mines, or eliminating a target, that must be completed within a time limit. If all members of the fireteam die or if the objective is not completed before time is up, the team must restart that round. There are no checkpoints in the Prison of Elders.

Upon completion of the final round, all participating Guardians will be able to access the Treasure Room and open the two loot chests and one large chest within, which contain materials and rare rewards.
